Mourning, still, the late/great Oriana Fallaci, I recently reread the account of her face-off with Henry Kissinger in the superb collection Interview with History.
“Too famous, too important…inexplicable, unbearable personage” Henry. “Absurd character” Henry.
“Nixon’s mental wet nurse” Henry.
That Henry.
Fallaci’s described her approach to Kissinger and the others she interviewed this way:
“I did not go to these fourteen people with the detachment of the anatomist or the imperturbable reporter. I went with a thousand feelings of rage.”
Mourn the loss of the woman and writer, but also mourn the loss of that rage.
